I’m Rudy. I’m a saxophonist, based between Mallorca and Barcelona, and a good part of my summer goes on hen dos in villas around the island. The idea is simple. You’ve got the villa, the pool and probably too much prosecco. I bring the sax and my own speaker, and I play live over party music while you get on with having a good time.
Some groups want me for the afternoon by the pool, others for sunset drinks, some for a night in before heading out. Tell me your plan and I’ll fit in. If you just want to check whether I’m free, send your date and the villa location in the form at the bottom and I’ll get back to you with availability and a price.
Honestly? Because a speaker on the table is fine, but it’s not a moment. When the bride’s favourite song comes on and there’s a guy with a saxophone standing next to her sunbed playing the chorus, everyone stops what they’re doing. Phones come out. Somebody always cries a little.
I don’t do it like a concert. There’s no stage and nobody has to sit and watch. I walk around, play over whatever’s on, and read the group. Quieter while people are eating, a lot louder once the dancing starts.
Usually I’m in touch with the maid of honour, or whoever got stuck organising the whole trip, and we sort everything on WhatsApp. I’ll want to know the villa, the time, what kind of afternoon you’re picturing, and a few songs the bride loves. That’s pretty much it.
I get there a bit early and set up somewhere out of the way. If the bride has no idea I’m coming, even better. I wait round the corner, someone turns the music up, and I walk out playing one of her songs. That bit never gets old for me.
Then I play in sets. In between, you eat, you swim, you open another bottle. The music doesn’t stop in the breaks, so it never feels like the party’s on pause. When I’m finished I pack up quietly and leave you to it.

The afternoon by the pool is what most groups go for, and I get why. It’s hot, the drinks are cold, everyone’s already in a good mood. The sax just pushes it a bit further. I mix summer hits with house remixes and throw in some old ones for the singalong. And yes, if someone ends up floating past on an inflatable flamingo, I keep playing.
It changes with every group, but some songs keep coming back. The big singalong ones, “Mr. Brightside”, “Dancing Queen”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”. Summer house tracks where the sax can go over the top. Anything from the 90s or 2000s that gets the whole group shouting the words.
If there’s one song that really means something to the bride, tell me. I’ll keep it for the right moment instead of just dropping it in. And if there’s a song she can’t stand, tell me that as well. It happens more than you’d think.

Once it’s dark I swap to the LED sax, which lights up while I play. It looks a lot better with the villa lights down and everyone dressed up. If you’ve got a DJ booked, I’ll play along with them. If not, I bring my own sound and mix. Some groups use it as a warm-up before heading into Palma. Others just stay in and make that the night.

Santa Ponsa gets a lot of hen groups, and it makes sense. Loads of villas, the beach close by, Palma not far for later. I play round there a lot, so getting to you is no problem. Port d’Andratx and Calvià are just as easy, and I’ll go anywhere else on the island too.
After a lot of villa parties, a few things have stuck with me.
Book early if you’re coming in summer. June to September weekends go fast, so once the villa and the dates are fixed, drop me a message and I’ll hold the date for you.
I’d also go for the afternoon rather than the last night. By then half the group is thinking about packing and flight times. The second day is normally when everyone’s at their best.
It’s worth checking the villa rules too. Some have quiet hours, or neighbours very close. If there’s a cut-off time, tell me and I’ll plan around it.
And the weather. It hardly ever rains here in summer, but if it does, I can play inside just as well. Push the sofas back and it works.

It’s happened a few times that a bride books me for her hen do and then again for the wedding. If that might be you, have a look at how I work as a wedding sax player for the big day, or read more about my weddings in Mallorca.
How long do you play?
Normally one or two sets. Tell me what you’ve got in mind and I’ll tell you what I think would work.
Do we need to organise anything?
Only a power socket near where I’ll be playing. I bring the speaker and the mic.
Can you surprise the bride?
Yes, and I’d say it’s the best way to start. Just let me know roughly when she’ll be at the pool, and have someone message me when it’s time.
Can you play at a beach club or restaurant instead of a villa?
If they allow live music, sure. Ask them first, though. Some places have their own rules about outside musicians and sound.
How much does it cost?
That depends on the date, where the villa is and how long you’d like me to play. Send me the details below and I’ll come back to you with a price.
